It is amazing to know that the CS of N still carries that "tradition" in service. They have been acting like that since the days of film cameras. From the bright side, what does it tell you about the quality of the product if the customers stand such abuse and still stay put? |

Is it possible to tell us what happened in Nikon CS by the little sister on your D200 ?

Thanks for responses.
What I mean by "big sensor" is anything bigger than 1/2.5" but not as big as aps-c (up to now there is only one DC with aps-c sensor). 1/1.8" is my lower limit for DC. Frankly, up to now my favourite DC, in terms of picture quality, is sony F717 which I still use regularly. You guys are right. 8080 has the sony 2/3" sensor which, according to dpreview, is the best among the crop of DCs using this sensor, beating even sony828 with its marvellous CZ T* lens.
I also agree that the lens used in older DCs are better. That is before they learn how to cut corners and stay with what works well with film cameras. There is absolutely no doubt about the Olympus lenses. They are very very good. The thing is while these cameras produce great pictures, the way they operate may hinder you from taking some of them. My greatest pain, with F717 and anything around that era, are with shutter lag and shot-to-shot time. I always think that, with no moving parts, the shutter response is only a function of the processing power of the CPU in the camera. How difficult is that to improve?
So if you look at the photo that you eventually get, it is marvellous. When you lose a shot due to camera sluggishness, you are frustrated. That is life. |

FF (e.g. Hasselblad), 35mm FF, APS-C, Sony R1, 4/3 (same for all models including E-30), 2/3" (e.g. OM8080, Pro 1...), normal DC (1/1.8", 1/2.7".....)

It may not be the best buy to obtain a 8080 by now. Undoubtly, the 8080 employs a larger size sensor of 2/3 than the LX3 and G10, if my memory is not wrong. Personally, I have more confidence on DC with big glass elements, such as OM 8080, Panasonic LC1, Sony R1. Somehow they were of serveral generations of technique before. So, the G10 and LX3 are my favour now.
Technologywise, the G10 and LX3 is far ahead to the 8080. But I cannot wash away the 3D feel rendered by OM 8080 and Panasonic LC-1. |

When the current "big sensor" dc such as g10 and lx3 are selling at around that price, what is the advantages of 8080 in front of these guys apart from the historical value? This is not a challenge, as I spotted one at >$3000 and really want to buy it. |
