To have a fair play between Nikkor and Tokina, I suggest you take the same scene with same setting on 18-200 and 24-200. So we can really see the differences.

Pegasus Hing
After seeing many testings and its features, I like this lens very much.
But when I sat in front of my Nikon System towards my dry box, I asked myself, "Do I really need this lens?"
I am standing on the crossroad again. |

Standard lens hing, so far I still prefer the Tokina 24-200 over this lens, may be I need to give it more time and get used to it and get the best out of it. |

Maybe this is the first time you used the lens. I could see the diffused lighting source and tiny hair of your baby did tackle the sharpness. No doubt the set will perform better under different occasions.
By the way, did you use the power grip on the D200?
It is one of my pros to D7D that I can feel that the gravity design is at the lower part. So the D7D balances well with whichever Minolta lenses (except AF 500mm Reflex). It's somewhat I found in D1X, D100, Contax RX and Leica SL2. However, I do not have gravity feel on D70 or D2X, so I have added a pc of tripod plate to increase the weight of lower part of D70. The images improved.

Still no time to test yet, too many parties to go to. Here is a pic taken this morning. Untouched of course.

May be I am not used to handling the lens yet. I found it less sharp than the Minolta DT18-200 on 7D using AS. Focusing speed is ok for a super zoom. I do like the close focus tho. |
