My Bufallo 640G/ext3 red light stays ON all the time when MTV goes to standby.
It is working OK though, waking to record ad goes back to red light when standby after scheduled recording.
I tried to find out what the red light means but could not find anything. The red light is supposed to be disk access so it is worrying when it stays on all the time.
I connected it to Viewsonic before, when Viewsonic goes to standby, all light go off. When Viewsonic wakes up for scheduled recording Bufallo is powered on woth green light. Only when it is recording or playback the red light blinks. I think it behaves what it should be.
But Bufallo seems to be working OK. Still, the red light is puzzling. |

This is not a bug.
If you look into the recorded content, you can see there are many files which contain the recorded information such as file size ad time.
STB needs those information in order to be able to play the recording.
If you just copy the main file into HD and put the HD to STB, STB cannot play the file because it cannot find the supported files. |

I try to answer your question.
you should copy all files under two directories: tv and ts, and the file tv.db to the new hard disk, then you can watch your old tv programs.

I use Buffalo 640GB/Ext2,
I found that when the Hard disk access light on the front panel of the Buffalo is red when blinking, everything is good. (record, playback, timeshift.)
However, sometimes it will become green while blinking. At that moment. if i try to do playback or timeshift, the MTV3000 will go wrong.
I think if you can find out why the hard disk light will become green, the buffalo will work fine with MTV3000.

"好大問題呀, 岩岩錄左"向世", file size show 2.5G & 26mins, fat32下應該分左2個files, 重播時係show到26 mins, 但係一開始就係尾段(應該係第二個file), 重要係重複咁播26mins. 我係set預錄, 但係係手動完結. 點算呀....... "

Just use the iso file.
用 Nero 或其他 programme , 用 (將影像檔案燒錄至光碟) this function.
Use this Iso file (影像檔案) create a bootable disk.
Put in the disk reboot the computer.
Under that programme enviorment scan all driver.
Choose your hard disk then partition & format

I then connected it to the bottom one and it has stayed there and working OK for a few days now. |

Thanks to all bros' sharing especially thank to davidtlwong leaving message related to Parted Magic which is very good to use.
Please let me share my trying result with 祼族 CRIS35EU2 external hard disk case and western digital 640G hard disk.
I tried both FAT32 & EXT2 with the above items.
Connection with computer
In order to let my computer ( Park??? Be?? iXterme Z800T P4 2.8GHz Win XP SP3) to reconized 祼族 CRIS35EU2, I boot computer, connected it with empty box then power on, insert the hard disk while the 祼族 is remain power on ( 有時要用力按實 the case door 一陣 in order to let it detect the hard disk ), then the Undefined USB Device dismissed in the 裝置管理員 list, USB Mass Storage Device emerged. Then use 磁碟管理 inital hard disk and format to FAT32. Next time power on the 祼族 with hard disk inside after boot up the computer and window. If you have disconnect the 祼族 or you need to insert another hard disk then you may also need to insert the hard disk with 祼族 empty and remian power on.
Connection with MTV3000
Also we need to power on ( not stand by mode ) the MTV3000 then power on 祼族 with hard disk inside and sometime need insert hard disk with 祼族 empty and power on. Also once MTV3000 reconized that 祼族 as a valid USB device, then the next time just power on 祼族 with hard disk inside after the power on of MTV3000.
Result with FAT32
Use EPG press R record 航天 while it is boadcasting. The picture quality sound & subtitle all good but the operating reaction to the remote command is not smooth as using Buffalo. After 30 minutes recording I try 邊錄邊睇 that 航天. After 10 minutes playing 定格及定格跳畫 happen, the light which indicate HDD movement is not blinking but turn on. 跳畫 10 minutes TV programme time then resume normal. The light indicate HDD movement auto turn off after record completed.
Format EXT2 by using PartedMagic
In order to let PartedMagic to recongized 祼族 ( with hard disk inside ) I need first make sure window had been recongized it before. Then shut down, put in the prepared bootable PartedMagic CD/DVD, power on the computer. This time I turn the 祼族 power on just after the computer 原廠畫面 vanish and before the completion of the boot sequence. Then use PartedMagic defined partition and format to EXT2. Format within 5-10 minutes completed.
Result with EXT2
EPG press R record 疑情 before programme boardcasting start and remain power on the 祼族. The HDD light start blinking when programme start and trun off after programme end. Picture quality sound subtitle operation reaction all good and even 邊錄邊睇 that same programme 疑情 is very smooth.
WD640G can record over 100 hours HD programme.
The external hard disk case 祼族CRIS35EU2 will not auto power off only the HDD light will turn off after recording. According to my feeling on the difference of the vribation of empty 祼族 case and case with hard disk, I defined that the hard disk is still turning even the HDD light turn off. After certain period of time the hard disk will stop turning leaving the small fan of 祼族CRIS35EU2 working. The advantage of 祼族 is no need to purchase hard disk mount for the 祼族 case and no need screw but it is not 方便 to set up at the first time.
I use Buffalo on programme recoding while Iam not stay in house.
I use 祼族 while I am in house and turn it power off manully.

So, in stead of using MTV3000 to format the HDD, I can use a PC to format the HDD to ext3 and get larger than 500G space.

I have been using Bufallo 640G for a few days now without any problem.
I formatted it to ext3 in a NAS.
If you format it in MTV, only 500G is useable. |

According to Li On of PMS said, they will fix the issue with Buffalo Drive Station.
But there is still a issue of 500G Limit on USB Harddisk.

The MTV 3000 I order last Saturday was delivered today, I immediately power it up and the picture quality is wonderful. even with my 6 years old 1024x1024 Hitachi. I will try it for a while before I up-grade the firmware.
However, I need some help on the hard disc size, I bought a Buffalo 640G on Monday, before I note the stutter issue reported in this thread.
Now I don't know what to do, return the Buffalo and exchange it with a WD?
Or just live with it?
Is the stutter issue can be solve?

Just tried and found that PartedMagic works fine with my 1TB WD MyBook. It just took less than 10 minutes to format it in EXT2.

So far my experience of stuttering playback of recorded programs on Buffalo Drive Station 500 Gb (Ext2 formatted by MTV3k) happened only once. After rebooting, the problem has not come back. Despite that, I'm very glad to learn that Li On has promised that PM will fix the "occasional" problem with Buffalo DS in the next firmware release. I really appreciate PM's efforts in bringing us the "bonus" recording functions and in particular their unrelenting strive to debug the firmware.
Based on advice from davidtlwong, I have reformatted the Buffalo DS in Ext3 by using Parted Magic (as a side issue, I could not boot up the Parted Magic Live CD on my desktop PC which has 2 SATA hdd running on AHCI - instead I had to use a Sony notebook). Those of you who want to use a hdd bigger than 500 Gb really should try this Linux software.
While being a bit greedy, I would like to request PM to consider adding the Picture-in-Picture function for playback with option to choose the audio from the recorded program or live TV. |

Added: How to access (read/write) MTV3000 Formatted (EXT2 Format) USB harddrive in Windows PC? On the PC, please install a EXT2 driver for Windows, such as http://www.fs-driver.org/
Tomorrow (Friday), hopefully, We will try to release a firmware update for the MTV3000 with USB harddrive recording function, for user to have fun with recording over the weekend!  This firmware will have some software bugs and may not function 100% perfect. Please treat it as a "beta" release!  After we collect feedback from users, we will release a update version ASAP. 
With the recording firmware, it can directly record to a FAT32 harddrive, or it can "format" a USB drive in EXT2 format up to 500G.
We suggest to use a USB harddrive with "auto Power On/Off" function. Some brand name USB harddrives we tested support the auto On/Off function, such as the Buffalo DriveStation, WD (Western Digital) My Book series, and Seagate FreeAgent series. If the USB harddrive support auto On/Off, then the USB harddrive should auto trun off when the MTV3000 finished recording and auto standby, and auto power on when the MTV3000 auto wake up when recording starts.
Generally we recommand a 3.5" USB harddrive with standalone power supply to use on the MTV3000. We also tested a few 2.5" USB harddrive size from 80G to 320G. Those 2.5" USB harddrives also work with the MTV3000 recording, with a "1 USB (harddrive) to 2 USB (MTV3000) cable" for the MTV3000 to supply enough power to the 2.5" USB harddrive. But we can NOT make sure all 2.5" harddrive can work on the MTV3000.
