Seems MagicTV is now focus on the new boxes, old box will no longer support, no new version to replace the beta for the bug fix. Or may be many staff left (just guess)..  |

Hi Li On,
My MTV5000 started acting funny today. It was in "REC" mode and then the screen got stuck on TVB channnel and not let me change it. The screen would alternate between TVB and black screen. I tried to do a hard reset with the switch in the back but somehow there wasn't a distinctive on/off click. Instead the button felt loose and mushy. Finally, there was a little bit of burning smell that came to of the STB and I pulled the plug.
What could be wrong with the stb and what should I do now?

ANDYGIFT hing, while watching nowTV on MTV7000D, remove nowTV decoder power cable, wait a few seconds, then reconnect nowTV power. After nowTV restart, nowTV picture should back to normal.

大鑊, 吟晚將部 7000D upgrade firmware to 5.7a, but signal from Now through HDMI cannot syn correctly, 閃下閃下, NowTV tuner warn monitor has HDCP problem, but if syn directly to TV, signal is OK>
Only happen through 7000D to TV (pioneer). Also, Cable TV signal through 7000D (HDMI) no problem wor....Only Now signal hv 閃, check 過 TV output from 7000D is 1080i/60.
What's wrong...... any help.

Dear Magic TV staff,
I got a firmware upgrade failure while I was upgrading the firmware from version 3.02 to 5.04. The progress stopped at 10% for a long time. Then I tried to reboot MTV3000 and follow the rescue procedure, but it failed because it could not detect my USB thumbdisk. Could you please advise me what to do? Thank you.

May I know how to use the xbox360 remote controller for my mtv3500? Any buttons need to press in order to recognize the remote before i can use it?
I have enabled the function in the setup menu but not working. Please share your experience with me, thanks! |

hi barco508, the error "Please Wait xx" usually means Magic TV can not properly shutdown (unmount) an internal or a USB HDD. Please do a "Check and Repair" on each HDD to make sure there is no filesystem error on HDD.
If the Magic TV still show "Please Wait xx" when no HDD is connected, please bring the Magic TV to us to check.

hope MTV3000 is still supported too. 5.04 is really super buggy, system will almost certainly hang (& all the ongoing recording tasks will stop) nearly *every time* trying to record two programs within the SAME frequency at the same time (e.g. J2 & hdJ). i highly suspect it's sth to do with the iEPG bugs (esp series recording bugs).
i also want an option to disable iEPG or other "valued-added" functions in 5.04
downgrading to 4.01 or even 3.05 solves the problem, for now.
for a DVR, i think stability & reliability are the most important things, in addition to the video quality.

Hi Li On,
I am MTV3000 user. It seems to me that firmware upgrades used to be in sync for all models. However, recently it seems upgrades have been focused on the newer models like 3200, 3700, 7000.
I hope support on previous models has not been discontinued. |

a new beta firmware 5.07 beta5 for MTV3200/3200D/3700D/7000D:

if you are already using a beta firmware, you can update to the new beta by online update. Otherwise please download the firmware from a PC and update through a USB thumb drive.
besides more bug fix, there are some interesting new feature:
- fast forward with audio at 1.5x and 2x
- slow motion, 3/4x and 1/2x with audio, 1/4x and 1/8x without audio
To play in slow motion, first "pause" the picture, then press ">>" key to switch between slow motion modes. Press "play" to resume normal playback.
If you really don't want audio while fast forward or slow motion, you can disable audio in Settings->Playback Setup.

To be safe, I waited few months before I upgrade my 3600d from firmware 4.x to the latest one. I believe the firmware should be stable and fixed the bugs after few months time.
After upgraded, the nightmare started just like many others. It keep showing "pls wait 20", what did this means? Wait 20 years to get a stable firmware???
I just want to watch TV without so many troubles, is it too much to ask for? |

After turning down the boost level of my antenna booster (signal strength dropped from high 60% to low 40%), the unstable HD channels problem seems to be improved. Instead of breaking up/no signal every few minutes, it is now happening only occasionally (kind of livable). Funny thing is that, there have been no problem with the MTV3000 and MTV5000. I connected the MTV3000 to the wall outlet with the weakest signal and it still worked great. I think the tuner being used in the MTV3200D is really inferior to the that being used in the MTV3000/5000. I am living in Happy Valley and I can get signals from both 金山 and 慈雲山. I can get signals for both frequency channels 22 and 40 using the MTV3000/5000. I wonder if the problem is caused by both transmission station are broadcasting at both frequency channel 35 and 37 (the HD channels) and creates some kind of interference. |

有部3100D仲係用緊3.08firmware, 但個remote好似就黎死. 見4.0以上可以用MCE remote, 咁岩我又有多隻MCE remote唔用, 想update個firmware黎用埋個remote.
我見好多人話新5.0x的firmware又慢又多問題, 而我基本上連錄影同usb wifi都唔用的, 請問而家3100D用咩firmware最稳定? 4.01 OK??

After updating the firmware, the reception of the HD channels seems to be better but is still unstable with lots of mosaics and "no signal" screens. Is this a fault that I should get a replacement set from the store or is it just a know deficiency in the MTV3200D hardware? |

You misunderstood. I was not using an USB wireless adapter. I was using a portable wires AP in client mode, which connected to the LAN port on the MTV box. I just used the USB port to get power for the AP. I had been using the AP in client mode since before MTV supported USB wireless adapters. I later found out that the power socket in the AP was not working too well and that gave me the impression that only one USB port was working. I tried both USB port on the MTV3200D to connect to the external HDD and it worked on both port. |
