I usually just copy it to harddisc, they end up there because burning
it back to DVDs takes too much work esp when you want to capture the
subtitles and still keep it within the same disc

you can read from avsforum.com, search using "101" or "102" for the
thread ripping 101 and ripping 102 for the one-for-all solutions.
I've used something (cannot remember now) like DVDExpresscopy & DVD-
Shrink - not bad

Speedstar,

The file you found on DVD+/-R is ***.vob.
You need DVDdecrypter to load the video into PC. The file type will
change from ***.vob to ***.d2v.
If you know about avisynth, this will be the best way to change
***.d2v to ***.avs which can be used as ***.avi.
Then you can load the ***.avs into Adobe Premier for editing.
Finally render and compress into ***.mpg (by premier or tmpg as you
like) and do authoring afterwards.

Not easy actually

So if you don't like trouble, edit the video using your dvd-recorder.

Speedstar,
The last step of all editing will be rendering and compression into
the MPEG2 format, assuming you want to produce a DVD eventually. This
inevitably introduces some loss of quality. TMPGENc is a good tool to
do the compression. You can go to http://www.videohelp.com/ to learn
all you need to know about video editing and the tools available.
