for your topic interesting thread at avsforum (>150 pages) Seems VMR
is the answer ...
Is Zoomplayer universal enough to cover most file types ? Often I
have to switch players just to play a file ... e.g. .ts .ogm by vlc,
wmv for WMP, mpg for BSPlayer
Just too many to automate @! |

IC - I'm more interested in your topic too
but usability helps the enjoyment a lot too
So where do you see is the next major improvement in picture quality
coming from ? I mean affordable step
3 chip dlp ? 969 DVI to Crystalio ? .. |

Hi Pyro,
I'm lazy to develop such HTPC interface because it doesn't help the
picture quality. I'm more interested to improve the picture quality
of HTPC rather than the user friendly interface. Anyway, I think a
bluetooth mouse is good enough.
The latest Girder has included the programe to control Zoomplayer.
It doesn't need to write the programe by your own. |

I think arranging everything into movie channels is the correct
approach after removing the desktop/need to use mouse at all (just
cursor up/down/left/right, select/enter) e.g. Korean Movies, SciFi,
Documentaries, Thriller, documentary, Recorded TV programmes
Behind each channel is a playlist of movies or files that is updated
manually or automatically
So after channel selection, you can use "Next" "Previous" to skip to-
from movie files in that channel, but within each movie you can fast
forward/reverse, pause etc
Basically its what you see like in a hotel payTV interface but all
the movies are coming from your own harddrive
see the discussion in "creating a virtual tv channel"

I'm thinking how to do this in Zoomplayer + Girder with the least
amount of programming |

CKL:
If you do it for boot up screen and search the media files as soon
as possible is good for new user of PC but what is the next step to
control the other inter functions of the software?, can it used by
remote control? (I think this is the main point the people choose
HTPC or not? Computer is complex idea.)
This for manage the min. programs and media fles is OK.
but how to upgrade the new versions of software? Can it has buttons
for internet upgrade by the direct link of those program when you
enter the button and show the sreen of those web support screen?
The third is: this design looks cute but not Hi-end enough or new
Japan and foreign cartoon design (you can search more PS2 or Xbox
video games user mannel on screen, you may get some idea). If you
want cute design for some family end user especially for our
master "wife", that is good idea. But for user mannel destop, much
user friendly is icons and graphic icons or all buttons with text
must need, like Mac. desktop, don't show too much letters mix up
your background graphic and desriptions or choose options.
please don't mind my sharing, hope give some idea.
Creative business, hope you design a good interface and make it as
program and share with us. |

I also think that is enough for someone like me not so familiar to
PC. |

that should be enough unless DVHS files play thru' the PC
I beg to differ on the mouse issue, even though I haven't used
wirelss mouse (I use wireless keyboard myself). Mouse is much less
familar than remote control, and in fact, for people that don't use a
PC, the whole GUI + mouse concept takes too much attention. Remote
control is just hitting the buttons w/o a lot of precise aiming ...
just my $0.02 cents la |

Thanks for your responses.
I'm thinking to hide the Windows desktop and enter the specified menu
for HTPC use. It should be more user-friendly for who are not
familar to PC operation. Moreover it limits the usages so that the
Windows won't be messed.
I don't think remote control is more convenient than wireless mouse
or track ball. I won't charge individually for such software and just
add it into the HTPC I installed.
The proposed menu will be: DVD, TV, Photo, Music and Window Media
Player.
Any more suggestion? |

i think it makes it useful for the family (and easier for us too) IF
you can use a remote to navigate it (no keyboard nor mouse)
but not sure people would pay lots of money for it .... |
