yes, MS is usually 馬後炮

but with compression technology rapidly improving (mpeg4, H.264), I
think mpeg2 (used by DVHS) can go down to at least half of mpeg2 (10
G) or less

for videophiles though, it'll take a few years of refinement before
some will accept it

the problem of wmv is with the high compression ratio, loss can't be
avoid (4.4 G wmv Vs 20 G DVHS), may be a HD-dvd verison of wmv will
perform better the dvhs, but i am a little bit worry with wmv, god
knows what microsoft will going to do with the wmv format in the future,
pay-per-view, region coded, super-copy protection, need us proxy
server.......

Yes, overall wmv9 is no fight with DVHS

but do you think its the source quality or just poor codec ne ?

I'm so jealous of you 56M

but HD with usual broadband speeds
need to use wmv9 to get it down within 10 Mbps

we should use WM9 and encode BS Hi/other channels unto your

I guess TVB is still the monopoly in Cantonese TV broadcast market,
no point to upgrade HD hardware equipment to get almost no
incremental ad revenue. Opening the sky is the way to go...
