Arcam launches new high-end DVD deck - complete with HDMI output
Arcam has just rolled out its latest high-end DVD player: the DiVA DV79. Standout features on the new £999 deck (due to hit stores at the end of April) are DVD-Audio playback, PAL and NTSC progressive Scan, and an HDMI output for all-digital connection with the growing number of plasma/LCD screens and projectors out there equipped with HDMI inputs. What’s more, Arcam claims its HDMI interface delivers a better picture than its competitors due to the DV79’s employment of a Zoran Vaddis 5 decoding engine, four-layer fibreglass circuit boards, and high-spec power supplies.
That’s really just the tip of the iceberg, though. As well as full multi-channel DVD-A decoding, the DV79 has onboard Dolby Digital, DTS and Pro-Logic II decoding and – get this – an adjustable lip synch corrector (0 to 150ms) to compensate for the video processing delays inherent in modern digital displays. Superb.
